Rug Doctor are the worldwide brand leader in carpet cleaning machine rental. In the UK alone we have over 400,000 rentals a year from almost 3000 rental outlets including B&Q, Homebase, Morrisons, Tesco, Johnsons the Cleaners and the Range.

Attracting new renters is our top priority and our website is one of our marketing tools for communicating with potential customers and directing them to their nearest store. 90% of UK households are no more than a 10 minute drive from a Rug Doctor rental location!

We launched our new website at the end of August 2011, shortly after this we started looking around for a competent SEO agency who was familiar with the CMS system we were using.

After a lot of searching, we were eventually recommended to try KPI and were encouraged to see that they were actively talking to people about SEO on the net, being guest speakers on SEO at events and were also proactive in sharing useful SEO information to the outside world. All good signs!

We received a proposal from them in November 2011 and they were subsequently appointed to handle our SEO requirements that month – starting work for us on 1st December.

At the outset, we set a benchmark of where we were and where we wanted to be. This included being on Page One for ‘Carpet Cleaning’ by the middle of 2012. It should be noted that we were on about page 17 at the time - given the competitiveness of this particular keyword!

Our old website had scored well in terms of visits (400 a day on average) - but the top searched keywords were the most likely ones for somebody looking for our company by its name.

50% of our traffic came direct at that time - someone actually punching in our website address. In other words, we were not attracting a much wider audience that would use more generic terms.

Typically, most of our consumers search using keywords to fix a problem ...eg carpet stain removal, carpet cleaning etc. Google likes to see itself as a problem solver, so the more we optimised this aspect the higher we knew we would rise up on the natural listings. But we knew it would take time. This is where KPI did such a great job on optimising the text on our pages and starting the all important link building. We were given weekly updates of our progress and monthly review documents that monitored the results, which proved very useful for presenting at management meetings.

I am delighted to say that we are now ranked on Page One for each of the 12 keywords we selected back in November – including carpet cleaning - which is a fantastic achievement.

Visits to our website are currently up 102% year on year (according to Google Analytics tracking) at 1500 hits a day. Direct traffic is now only 14% with 82% now being Search Traffic and 75% of hits are new visits.

KPI are now assisting our German company’s SEO requirements. I have no hesitation in recommending the KPI team to any company who want results.

KPI are one of those companies that you get an instant feel of confidence from, and know you want to work with them. Many companies particularly around SEO can be pushy, and it’s difficult to know if they really know there stuff.
